Access to clean water and proper sanitation is fundamental to human dignity and health. In arid and semi-arid regions of northern Kenya, communities often rely on distant or unreliable water sources, exposing them to waterborne diseases and long hours spent fetching water, particularly for women and children.
ISKA is addressing these challenges through integrated WASH interventions. By constructing and rehabilitating boreholes, water pans, and distribution systems, the organization is increasing access to safe and reliable water sources. These efforts reduce the burden on households and improve overall community wellbeing.
Sanitation and hygiene promotion are equally critical. Many preventable diseases in these regions stem from poor hygiene practices and lack of sanitation facilities. ISKA works closely with communities to promote behavior change through awareness campaigns, school-based hygiene programs, and community-led sanitation initiatives.
The impact of these interventions goes beyond health. Improved access to water and sanitation enhances school attendance, boosts productivity, and contributes to dignity and safety—especially for women and girls. Through sustainable WASH solutions, ISKA is helping communities build healthier and more resilient futures.
